Riding the wave of tradition, Camarada continues its four-year collaboration with San Diego jazz icon, Peter Sprague. Peter is a critically acclaimed American jazz guitarist, composer, musical arranger and music producer. In 1984 noted jazz critic Leonard Feather, in a review for the Los Angeles Times, called Sprague, "One of the emergent great guitarists."
Debuting with Camarada as singer and host is Jazz 88.3 Inside Art's Dave Drexler. A trusted broadcast professional for more than 30 years, Emmy-winning Dave Drexler is one of San Diego's best-known voice-over talents, on-camera presenters and media writer/producers. Dave will be provide concert commentary and perform Double Rainbow by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Route 66 by Bobby Troup. This Simply Jazz program will include many of Peter's personal favorites: Mundaka, Rainbows, Islas Canarias, Jimenco, The Canticle for Richard, and India Zack. Plus Double Rainbow by Jobim and Route 66 by Bobby Troup.
Camarada presents a program of American music anchored by two exhilarating chamber works by John Harbison and David Diamond. Harbison's American Painters for flute and string trio evoke the artists' after images based on art from the Metropolitan Museum. David Diamond's propulsive Quintet for flute, string trio and piano is the fascinating finale, and one of the few pieces written for this combination of instruments. San Diego composer John Lorge's will introduce his (2002 commission by Camarada)"The New Rule" for flute, cello and piano. This concert also features composers Elliot Carter, John Williams and George Gershwin.
